Directions

Put cornstarch in a saucepan or mini Dutch oven. Add a little of the cold milk and mix to a thin smooth paste. Pour in remaining milk and sugar, mixing well. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Simmer for 1 minute until thick. Stir in Framboise or Grenadine then transfer mixture into a bowl to cool for 5 minutes. After the set time, gradually beat mixture in yogurt along with the coloring. Pour cornstarch pudding into wet molds. Sprinkle tops with sugar to prevent a skin from forming. Cover and chill for 4 hours or until set. Unmold and decorate with fruit and chop nuts.

1 packet lemon-flavored gelatin

2 eggs

Finely grated zest of 1 lemon

Spoon mixture into wet ring mold, cover and chill for 4-6 hours. Unmold mousse onto serving plate and decorate with candied peel, ginger or angelica.

4 squares (4 ounces) dark chocolate

1 tablespoon butter

3 eggs, at room temperature

4 tablespoons powdered sugar, sifted

Dash of lemon juice

2/3 cup whipping cream

Directions

Chop chocolate and put into bowl set over saucepan of gently simmering water. Add butter and stir until melted. Separate eggs into two bowls and add half the sugar to egg yolks. Beat until thick and creamy. Gradually beat into melted chocolate. Remove bowl from saucepan. Whip egg whites until stiff. Gradually whisk in remaining sugar and continue whisking until mixture is thick, glossy and stands in firm peaks. Using a large metal spoon, fold egg whites gently into chocolate mixture. Whip egg and sugar cream until thick then gradually fold into chocolate mixture. When mixture is smooth and evenly combined, transfer it to 4 individual serving dishes. Chill for 2 to 3 hours or until set.

A business that you know you should start? whatever it is get to it.

Really think to yourself 'what type of wife do I want to be' what can I bring to the relationship? How can you enhance someone else's life? Once you have the answers you will have the blueprint for the areas that you need to work on.

Maybe you need to learn how to cook? Because you want to be a stay at home mum, Or maybe you would rather be the bread winner so you have to now focus on growing you business or career? Could you do with being more patient, forgiving, loving, romantic?

Improving yourself brings great reward to yourself and those around And the result is that you become more valuable, gain self respect and build confidence.

Just think about how great you are going to look and feel when love finds you. You will be fully in Joy and ready to share your true unconditional love.

There are hundreds of myths that haunt the women today. These have been passed on to generations, from grandmothers to mothers, and mothers to daughters. It is no wonder that many women have grown to believe some (or even all) the myths we have listed below. So to clear things up, we are going to demystify some of the most popular myths handed down from generation to generation. Get ready to play truth or dare with these myths.

1. Crossing legs will cause varicose veins.

False. Dare to cross your legs anytime you want. Varicose veins are caused by valves that have difficulty pumping blood to your heart. When they aren't functioning properly, they produce a pool of blood which can be seen through the surface of the skin. Standing a lot can lead to this. You can also blame your parents for them. Spider veins usually appear at a certain age for some women. Typically, it will be at the same age your mother first had them. Most women also develop spider veins during or after pregnancy. Lastly, chemicals from smoking and birth control pills may cause the same damage as standing all the time.

2. Shaving will result to thicker hair growth.

False. Shaving will never make your hair growth thicker. It only appears so because the blade cuts through at the base of the hair. This is the thickest part and when it grows back, it still has that wide end. Hair that's never been cut has a pointed tip. Hair that's been cut will never regain its pointed tip.

3. Nail polish causes yellow stains.

This one is true. Dark shades such as red and burgundy have more pigments that get absorbed by your nails. To prevent this from happening, wear a clear base coat to protect your nails from looking unhealthy without color.

4. Pores can be shrunken permanently.

False. Pore size is determined by genetics. Their size can only be temporarily reduced by using creams, toners and for those on a budget, egg whites. These tighten the skin thereby making the pores look smaller.

5. Cellulite can be erased.

False. Only genetics will determine who won't get them. Cellulites are caused by fat deposits that get trapped between the tissues of the skin. These tissues made of fibrous bands squeeze the fat and creates a lumpy surface resembling an orange peel. Firming creams and lotions, however, can reduce the presence of cellulite by injecting caffeine into the skin to tighten it. Moisturizers will also do the same trick by hydrating and plumping your skin. The quickest way to make cellulite fade is by camouflaging it with a fake tan.

6. Waxing will minimize hair growth

True. Waxing rips the hair out of the follicles and causes damage. Repeatedly done, waxing will minimize hair growth to the point where follicles could no longer produce hair. This will take plenty of sessions and a lot of painkillers, though. We're talking about 2-3 decades of waxing.

7. Rubbing eyes creates wrinkles.

False. What give you wrinkles are gravity and repetitive actions such as smiling. Unless you rub your eyes more times than you smile, you're bound to get crow's feet and wrinkles.

8. Cocoa butter and olive oil will prevent stretch marks.

False. Cocoa butter and olive oil are not able to penetrate the top layer of the skin where the stretching occurs. What they can do is suppress the itching that comes with the rapid expansion of the skin.

9. 100 Strokes will make your hair shinier.

False. Studies show that continuous tugging of the hair and overbrushing hair can do more damage than good. Light brushing, however, distributes the oil from the scalp down to the hair. This gives it the natural shine. Light brushing can also remove impurities such as dirt and dandruff and massages the scalp. Massaging the scalp stimulates blood flow for that keeps the hair healthy.

10. Dotting your pimples with toothpaste will make them clear up.

Toothpaste contains menthol, an ingredient that dries up pimples; however, it also contains other ingredients that might cause more damage by irritating the skin around the blemish. To be on the safe side, stick to ointments and creams made for clearing blemishes.

11. Sleeping on your back with a satin pillow prevents wrinkles.

This myth also comes with a fine print saying that the side you always sleep on will have more or deeper wrinkles than the other. This has a slight truth to it. As we age, the elasticity of our skin will start to degenerate as collagen and elastin fibers will start breaking down. The effects are very minimal and unnoticeable.

12. Drinking plenty of water keeps skin from drying out.

Sure, water will hydrate you and keep your body hydrated. Nevertheless, it won't do much for your skin. What will keep your skin moist are creams and moisturizers. This one is a true false.

13. Cutting cuticles is bad for your nails.

This one holds true. Cutting cuticles put you at risk of hangnails and infections. It's also a painful procedure. The better alternative would be to push them down after they've been soaked and softened. Don't forget the lotion.

You will notice that only a handful of these myths are true. The next time you hear a beauty myth, treat it like a rumor: do not believe it until you have the facts. Who knows, there might be better alternatives to what you're told to do to look and feel pretty.

The Mini Manicure...Here's How

1. Start my gently filing your nails into a neat and short length. Next grab your nail buffer(skip this step if you want your polish to last a bit longer), the nail buffing blocks usually have 3 to 4 sides start with the more abrasive side and buff each nail and work through until you get to the smoothest side of the buffing block for a nice shine.

2. Next gently push back your cuticles if they are extending over your nails, if they are not its best to leave them alone.

3. Soak a cotton make up pad in the nail polish remover and clean each nail, this will ensure any old polish & oil is removed from the nail and will help the base coat adhere to the nail.

4. The Base Coat is essential for a long lasting polish, so apply a coat of the base coat to each nail.

5. Allow the base coat to dry for a few minutes then start applying your nail colour. Apply a light coat of colour. There are many rules as to the correct way to apply nail colour, but apply lightly and which ever way feels comfortable for you.

6. Leave the first colour coat to dry for a few minutes, then apply a second coat.

7. Finish with a Top Coat. Quick drying Top Coats are handy when in a hurry...

Saying that, its better to allow a good amount of time for your nail polish to set (about an hour if possible). I know its hard to stay still this long, but allowing enough time after you have finished painting will give you a perfect finish!

Sorry, ladies – it's time to put away that crimson lipstick you've been rocking all fall and winter. Same goes for those deep, dark shades of nail polish. Go ahead and keep the black liner, though. You never know when that might come in handy.

Warmer weather is on the way, and nothing announces the return of spring quite like fresh new beauty trends. The grass is green, the sun is bright, and your makeup bag is overflowing with fun new shades of lip gloss and eye shadow. Life just doesn't get any better than this, right?

BRIGHT COLORS

Beige shadow, brown eyeliner, and muted pink lipstick are so last season. This spring, it's all about color. If you want your lips to look extra bright, smooth on a light shade of concealer before applying your lipstick or gloss. Fuchsia isn't very forgiving when it comes to application errors, so make sure you apply it in a brightly lit area with a large mirror – forget about attempting last-minute coats of this trendy shade on the bus or train.

Lips aren't the only thing begging for an explosion of color this season. Experiment with fun shades of shadow like mint green, tropical blue, light purple, and even hot pink. Don't forget to finish your trendy eye look with a coat of rich black mascara and a few swipes of a colorful liner. Electric blue flatters nearly every complexion and eye color.

TEXTURE

Tired of flat ironing your hair until it's perfectly sleek and smooth? Messy hair is where it's at, so feel free to sleep in this season. Tousled tresses take on any number of forms, ranging from slight waves (think beach hair) to full-blown bedhead.

Texture doesn't stop with your hair, though. Lovely ladies everywhere are trying out the crinkled nail look. Chunky glitter is still acceptable, too. Texture even finds its way on eyelids this season, so don't forget to try layered shadow looks and sparkling swipes of glitter.

NAUTICAL

Have you ever had the chance to spend a gorgeous spring day on the water on a yacht or boat with the breeze gently blowing your hair and the sun beating down upon your skin? Then you might still appreciate the nautical look that's finding a home on the faces, hair, and nails of women of all ages this season.

Nails have been affected the most by this trend, so expect to see plenty of navy blue and white, with a touch of red, on toes and fingers. This look works best on short, square nails, but longer nails can also pull it off.

Hair is fuss-free and low-maintenance, so go for loose waves or a perky ponytail, sailor hat optional. As for color, ask your stylist for highlights in the places where the sun normally hits your hair.

Makeup is fairly natural with the nautical look, but not bare-faced natural. Use plenty of bronzer on your face, arms, and upper chest. Don't forget to run the brush across your ears, too, if you'll be pulling back your hair. Finish with plenty of clear gloss, shimmery gold or beige shadow, and black mascara.

DRAMATIC MAKEUP

Fuchsia lipstick and bold eye shadow colors are totally hot this spring. Red lipstick is also still hot, but make sure you use a bright red rather than a crimson or burgundy. Oh, and funky colors like baby blue and lime green have been spotted on the lips of a few runway models and one or two in-the-know fashionistas.

Metallics are another trend you can expect to see a lot of this spring. Once reserved for cooler weather, these shades are showing up in full force across the nation. Shimmery gold shadow is a classic that never really goes out of style, but this season is all about strong metallic shades. Think aluminum foil silver, not shimmery gray. These shades can be found on eyes, lips, and nails.

AU NATURALE

Not ready to tweeze or wax your brows again? No need to worry – the natural brow trend carries over from winter to spring this year. Don't use this as an excuse to stop grooming them, though – you still need to use a fine-toothed brow comb and a bit of clear gel to keep them looking nice.

A pale pink gloss, shimmery beige shadow, and a classic French manicure completes the natural look. A flawless complexion is a must for this look, so fake it with a tinted moisturizer and loose powder, if you have to.

Spring is a time of change, of transformation. Use this season to try things you never thought you'd do, from bright lips to natural brows. Whatever you decide to do, you're going to be beautiful. And no, your mom didn't tell us to say that.

Carnevale, also known as Carnival or Mardi Gras, is celebrated in many, many countries. The key date is Tuesday, February 21, 2012 or, if you are planning ahead, Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Of course, the fun starts several weeks before. Our favorite place to fete the end of winter and the beginning of spring is Italy. However, we cannot promise you that spring will have actually arrived, especially in the northern part of the country.

Did you know that Italy is divided into twenty regions, each boasting a somewhat unique outlook on life and each celebrating a series of unique Carnevales? The most famous and undoubtedly the priciest Carnevale takes place in Venice. For several weeks prior to the culminating date the jet set takes over. You can expect to shell out hundreds of Euros for many of the events, unless they have sold out. If you hurry, you can probably get tickets and hotel rooms for any event that you want, for the 2013 edition. Their motto is "Life is Theatre! It's Time to Get Masked." So you really should be prepared with one or more masks. And if you can't make them you can buy them.

For a more authentic, and undoubtedly less expensive Carnevale experience, you can visit any other Italian region, or even elsewhere in Veneto (Venice's region). The variety is close to endless. For example, in the central Italian region of Abruzzi east of Rome in many little towns Carnevale focuses on Cicerchiata. This delicious treat resembling peanut brittle was is traditionally made from selected local beans that are increasingly replaced by fried dough. Might this be tastier than many Venice offerings?

Of course if you are in central Italy you will probably want to stop by Rome. During the Renaissance Rome's Carnevale was even more famous in all Europe than its Venetian competitor. At some point this Carnevale disappeared. But now it's back perhaps not with vengeance but with circus horses jumping through flames, masquerades, fireworks, open-air theaters, folklore dances and parade floats. And when you tire of Rome, you can visit other Latium Carnevales not far away.

What about southern Italy? The Mezzogiorno remains quite traditional. The first floats appeared in Sicily over four hundred years ago. The major Basilicata Carnevale is located in the town of Tricarico, population 6 thousand. Children and adults parade in costume, cow and bull outfits are always popular. Remember, virtually everywhere in Italy hosts a memorable Carnevale.

Here are two great zucchini soup recipes.

I made the first zucchini soup the other night and was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out. I'm constantly amazed by how the simplest easy soup recipes with the most basic of ingredients - like this zucchini soup recipe - can be so satisfying and delicious.

When you're in need of quick easy dinner ideas, why not think soup? It's simple, satisfying and can be served hot or cold (depending on the recipe), making it a great choice all year round.

I served it with grilled cheese sandwiches, for a quick and easy dinner.

The second one is for a cold zucchini soup that is on my "must try" list. It's from one of my favorite cookbooks of the moment and is full of some of my favorite foods - lemon juice, plain yogurt, pesto and basil.

Curried Zucchini Soup

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

Coarse salt

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 teaspoons curry powder

1 1/2 pounds zucchini (about 3 medium), sliced 1 inch thick

1 baking potato, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks

1/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted, for garnish

Directions

1. Heat oil in a large saucepan or soup pot over medium heat. Add onion and 1 tablespoon salt; cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic and curry powder and continue to cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute.

2. Add zucchini, potato, and 4 cups water to the pot. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat, and simmer until the vegetables are tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

3. In batches, puree soup in a blender (do not fill more than halfway) until smooth. Taste and add more salt if needed; serve immediately, or let cool, and refrigerate in an airtight container until chilled. Garnish with toasted almonds.

Variation Ideas: Skip the curry powder. Add a couple big handfuls of spinach into the hot soup right at the end of cooking and give it a few seconds to wilt. After pureeing, add a big squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Taste and add more salt if needed.

Cold Zucchini Soup Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Chill Time: 2 to 3 hours

Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

6 medium zucchini

1 leek

1 teaspoon salt

5 cups water or vegetable stock

3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup pesto

1 (8 ounce) container plain yogurt

fresh basil leaves and extra yogurt for garnish

Directions

1. Slice the zucchinis thinly and the leek julienne style (skinny 2-inch long slices).

2. Place them in a soup pot add the salt and water or stock and bring to a boil. Boil for about 10 minutes and then turn the heat down to low and simmer another minute or two.

3. Allow the soup to cool, then add the lemon juice, pesto and yogurt. In patches, puree the soup in a blender.

4. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding salt, pepper and/or lemon juice as necessary. Serve soup chilled, with 1 teaspoon yogurt at the center and surrounded by leave of fresh basil as garnish.

As 2012 is upon us, it is a great time to look at designer forecasts for what are the hot colors for modern home decor in this new year. Benjamin Moore's 2012 ColorPulse event showcased an interesting trend in Preservation due to the current economic climate and a desire to connect with our past.

What is being called "Fabulous Foliage" includes shades of greens, and homes are even once again being decorated with botanical prints. Green and white fern fabric can be seen in home furnishings, such as accent chairs, throughout the home.

"Global Safari" brings in unique home d�cor with ethnic accents, especially with the use of Indian and Moroccan textiles - lots of color and patterns going on there.

"Mixed Metals" heralds back to the unique decorations of 70's retro, so not so much the shiny silvers, golds and bronzes seen lately. Think of mirrored, but not like in mercury glass that has been so big in 2011.

Another modern home d�cor trend, "Modern Art," includes bright, bold hues and patterns, youthful-looking furniture and watercolor patterns - all with that IKEA feel. These splashes of color will also be found in housewares and gifts, like hostess and housewarming gifts.

And the unique d�cor, "Yacht Club," trend can be achieved by throwing in red as a home interiors accent, along with weathered wood, anything rope-covered, and products incorporating a flag influence.

Modern home d�cor design trends will include native geometrics, fossils, Southwest influence, totems and stacking elements, handcrafted lace and embroidered items, recycled and repurposed items, damask, and rugs that look worn.

Watch for unique home d�cor cues from nature, and a move towards functionality and a self-sustaining lifestyle. Elements to look for include blueprints and maps as art, graphics, mazes, 3D art, digital art, terrariums, and food growing and canning. Big colors are blues, modern neutrals, layered greens, whitespace, pixilated colors, gray/charcoal/black, and red/orange as contrasts. Look for high contrasts, oxidized shine, and silvery and mirror effects in unique decorations.

Fashion for 2012 harkens back to those 70's unique d�cor appliance colors. It's almost hard to believe that we will once again see "Harvest Gold", "Avocado" and "Almond" (this last one is still lurking in my kitchen). Maybe these colors will look better being worn than cooked on. We can only hope.

"Layered Neutrals," with tones of oatmeal, brown, tan and grey are making the jump from wall accent colors to layered combinations in outfits.

"Pastels" will be seen in blush pink, mint green and robin's egg blue. "Graphic Prints," especially in black and white will be everywhere along with "Tangerine Tango."

Jewelry collections will be chunky and large in metals, and antique and vintage/retro but in new combinations. Dramatic necklaces will include bibs, feathers and lace. Bracelets will be ornamented and bold like leather and metal cuffs. Jewelry will be eclectic, ethnic and tribal. Rings will be taking over the hands, and earrings will include huge hoops and chandeliers. There is an eco-friendly trend to reuse and recycle.

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Pisa is a city with a wealth of history, culture, and educational opportunities. Founded around 13 centuries before the Common Era, Pisa sits at the convergence of two rivers: the Arno and the Serchio. Most famously known for its leaning tower, it also offers a variety of churches, works of art, squares, and architectural and other cultural achievements that are considered icons of Tuscany. The Leaning Tower of Pisa - As one of the most recognisable buildings in Italy, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is the freestanding bell tower of the Duomo next door. It's easy to find this unique landmark where Piazza del Duomo meets the Piazza dei Miracoli - all within easy reach of your Tuscany villa rental. The piazza itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the tower being the third oldest structure in the square. Work on the tower took place over 177 years. Work commenced on the base in 1173 and the tower began its famous tilt in 1178, when the second floor was started. The cause has been found to be its mere three-metre foundations, set in weak, unstable soil. After a pause in construction of almost a century, the tower was eventually completed in 1372. In January of 1990, the tower was closed to the public and righted 18 inches; it was again under scaffold in 2008, and has now been declared to have stopped moving for the first time - and will remain stable for at least 200 years.

The Duomo - At the centre of the Piazza del Duomo, the large medieval cathedral that is the home church of the Leaning Tower, is something that must not be overlooked while visiting Pisa on a day trip from your Tuscany villa rental. Construction on the cathedral began in 1064 and the fa�ade set a precedent for the Pisan Romanesque architecture of the area. Inside and out, there are no shortages of works of art by masters such as Cimabue, Riminaldi, and Giovanni Pisano - to name a few. It was here that Galileo is believed to have created his theories of the swing of a pendulum, by watching it move from an incense lamp in the nave.

The Camposanto Monumentale - Also known as the Monumental Cemetery, the Composanto Monumentale forms the edifice of the northern edge of the Piazza del Duomo and Piazza dei Miracoli. It is said that soil was brought here all the way from Golgotha, and the cloister was built around the burial ground between 1278 and 1464. Before you head back to your Tuscany villa rental for the night, be sure to spend a while at the Camposanto Monmentale and view the few remaining Roman sarcophagi and the stunning frescos, currently under repair.

When you see the same kind of product over and over again, that's a a good sign that it will be dominating the tech headlines in the near future.

1. Connected TVs hook up with smartphones and tablets

Manufacturers have finally realized that the majority of us don't just sit and watch TV: We usually have a phone, a laptop or a tablet in our lap whenever we tune in. That presents some interesting opportunities to the company that can figure out how to tie multiple screens together in an interesting way. For instance, everyone from Sony to Samsung is playing with ways of "swiping" a TV show from a touchscreen tablet onto your TV with a flick of the wrist. Gestures like this point to a day when you no longer need universal remotes, because the touchscreens you already own are a far better way to browse video content, whether it comes from cable, satellite, broadcast or internet sources like Hulu and YouTube.

More interesting, perhaps, is the possibilities that a "two-screen" experience opens up for connecting your TV-watching with your social networks and the internet at large. You could be watching the NFL game on the big screen while you look up stats on your little screen. You could be chatting with friends or sharing highlights via Twitter while watching the latest episode of Downton Abbey. And of course Google has been attempting this for several years, though we saw very little evidence at CES that Google TV has much traction among manufacturers or customers.

The big challenge: There are no broad standards to facilitate connecting TVs and tablets, and in the absence of that, every manufacturer is trying to own the whole burrito. If someone can figure out how to create a truly cross-platform TV and mobile device system, they'll have a good shot at capturing a huge slice of consumer attention. –Dylan Tweney

2. Ultrabooks breathe new life into laptops

Who ever thought a new shape of laptop would be one of the most interesting aspects of CES?

Intel pushed Ultrabooks — its new name for thin and light ultraportable laptops — hard at the trade show. This year alone there will be more than 75 Ultrabook models on the market, and Intel has said that it's gearing up its biggest marketing push since the Centrino lineup for the new machines. HP had one with Gorilla Glass on its cover, while Dell had one that was made out of carbon fiber.

So what's the big deal? Ultrabooks promise to be lighter than typical laptops, weighing in around 3 pounds for the most part, allowing them to practically disappear in your laptop bag. They'll sport solid-state drives (SSDs), instead of traditional hard drives, which will make them extra-thin and fast. (Expect startup times under 10 seconds and practically instant resume from standby speeds.) And thanks to Intel's next-generation Core processors, Ultrabooks will be peppy under the hood and even capable of decent 3D graphics performance.

3. OLED offers brighter and bigger TV screens

It may be a bit early to call OLED TVs a trend, what with only two models on display this year from LG and Samsung, but after being teased with OLED technology for years now, we feel it's time to finally get excited for these displays, which represent the next-generation of HDTVs.

Why the hype? Since the OLED displays don't require a backlight, they're impossibly thin (LG's display is only 4 millimeters deep with a 1mm bezel). They're also capable of a richer color palette, dark-as-night blacks, and brightness beyond the capabilities of LCD sets. OLED also features fast response times (it doesn't have the fast motion issues that LCD does), as well as extremely wide viewing angles.

The 55-inch OLED displays from LG and Samsung, which are expected to be released some time this year, are the closest the technology has gotten yet to dominating consumer living rooms. Car companies showed up in full force at CES, with companies like Mercedes-Benz and Ford showing off the latest in connected car technology. While the consoles inside these machines don't quite represent full-fledged computers or do everything a smartphone can do, they can now interact with our smartphones and give us all sorts of smart extras, whether it's to talk out directions or listen to our voice commands to change the channel.

Mercedes-Benz head Dieter Zetsche debuted the mbrace2 console, which connects the dashboard to the cloud for over-the-air software updates and gives the owner access to Facebook, Google, news highlights and more from the dashboard. The mbrace2 solution will also have 3G Internet access, but it's unclear if you'd need to purchase a data plan to use it and what limitations it might have. The Tesla Model S, pictured right, has a huge touchscreen display in its dashboard.

Another highlight of the show was Ford, which showed its Sync technology growing up with more apps for AppLink, its program in the console that interacts directly with iPhone and Android apps when the phone is connected via Bluetooth or USB. AppLink already lets you voice control apps like Pandora, Slacker, iHeartRadio and Stitcher, and now it works with a new NPR app that lets you create on-demand listening of your favorite NPR programs.

VentureBeat contributor Rocky Agrawal rightly points out that car and phone integration has a lot of road for improvement, but we believe they are at least headed full-speed in the right direction. –Sean Ludwig

The trend was spearheaded by researchers who wanted a "quantified self," or self-knowledge through numbers that measure things such as how long we sleep or how many stairs we can climb in a day. We don't know where it will end.

The new Striiv pedometer told me that I walked more than 17,000 steps, or more than seven miles, in one day at CES. When I got back home and walked just 7,000 steps in a day, I felt like a slacker. The Gear4 Sleep Clock will use radar to calculate the exact number of minutes you slept in a night, how many minutes it took to fall asleep, and when is the ideal time to wake you up. After a year of such data, it will be much easier to wake up at exactly the lightest point in your sleep cycle. All of this is useful data, and we're going to want to store it somewhere. And once you collect it, companies will be more than happy to bribe you in order to purchase that data from you.

This shift to quantified self gadgets is also coming with a change in attitudes about privacy, or at least it seems that way. There's a tension between personalization and privacy. George Orwell, the author of 1984, the seminal novel about Big Brother watching you, couldn't have planned a better way to capture everything that we do in a day. But because of the potential benefits, many people seem eager to be measured, as long as their privacy is protected. The space where you can operate privately is becoming more and more constrained. –Dean Takahashi

6. Sensors are everywhere

If we're going to quantify our lives, we need sensors to do it. And CES clearly showed that sensors are proliferating. Some of them aren't new. They're just getting better. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) sensors will soon be able to detect your location indoors. The Kinect motion-sensing system for games on the Xbox 360 is expanding to uses such as virtual shopping (Bodymetrics) and games on the PC. Since you can hack Kinect, you can also turn it into a home security system. LG showed off a smart refrigerator that can sense what kinds of groceries you have purchased and what you will need to order soon. Microphones can be used around a city to detect the exact location of a gunshot. You can stick a sensor in the ground to determine whether the soil is perfect for growing your favorite vegetable, or maybe it will recommend something else. Accelerometers, gyroscopes, compasses, touchscreens and voice recognition sensors are built into our phones. Those phones are sending all sorts of data about your activities to a data center. Rear-view mirror cameras and motion-sensing alarms alert us to hazards or thieves. Cameras are mounted on everything from flying drones to ski helmets. It's much easier to put inexpensive surveillance cameras up to detect crime or capture a license plate for someone who speeds through a red light. Heart rate and sweat monitors add more information to motion-sensors about how fit we are. At the airport, your entire body can be scanned in the name of security. Say goodbye to the analog life. Everything analog is going digital. –Dean Takahashi

7. There's no more excuse for getting lost

The global positioning system (GPS) has made it a lot easier for us to find out where we need to go without printing out a Mapquest page. Just about every phone comes with Google Maps or some other way to get around. Siri on the iPhone 4S will help you find your way by letting you give it voice requests for destinations while you're driving the car. But until recently, navigation only worked outdoors.

Now a company called CSR is going to make it even harder to get lost by introducing chips that do indoor navigation. Satellite-based GPS has always been too weak on this front because it requires a line-of-sight to the user. But the SiRFstarV GPS chips use a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi signal triangulation, and motion sensors such as gyroscopes in your phone to get a better reckoning on where you are. SiRFstarV fuses various radio signals, sensor inputs, and other location data to provide reliable and accurate positioning inside buildings. Using a cloud-based back-end service dubbed SiRFusion, the technology pulls together the various inputs to figure out where you are and where you are moving.

Companies such as Micello and Google are working to create indoor maps of big spaces such as airports or convention halls so that you can navigate from one indoor landmark to another. CSR demonstrated a working indoor navigation system at CES, and it will only be a matter of time before these things are used in smartphones. People who are chronically late will no longer be able to legitimately claim that they got lost in a maze on their way to an appointment. –Dean Takahashi

8. Apps on the TV are gathering steam

Pretty soon, you'll be able to play Angry Birds on a Samsung TV. That's one of many new apps coming to TV sets, which are smart enough to be connected to the internet and can download apps from web-based App Stores. Nvidia showed off a tablet from Asus that uses the ARM-based Tegra 3 processor, which can generate console-like 3D graphics for games. Asustek will use the Tegra 3 in a 7-inch tablet that will sell for $249. Intel and Qualcomm also showed off a number of tablets using their chips. A number of convertible laptops were also on display at CES, where the laptop can be twisted an easily converted to a tablet computer. Lenovo showed off its IdeaPad Yoga, a laptop that can bend over backwards and turn into a Windows 8 tablet. Many of the prototypes showed off Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system and its Metro interface, which uses large touch-friendly icons to help users navigate through different applications. In this case, companies are not only innovating on hardware, but software as well. – Dean Takahashi

The batteries technology is getting more responsive and accurate, thanks to advances in chips, display technology and glass. Samsung showed off a touchscreen that can accurately detect both finger touches and pen touches. Thanks to suppliers like Atmel, that will become more and more common. And the touch technology is benefiting from faster processing. Nvidia, for instance, showed off a technology called DirectTouch in its Tegra 3 smartphone and tablet processor. It means that Tegra's fifth "ninja" processor can handle the processing of touchscreen inputs that are normally handled by microcontrollers. As a result, the company said that the ninja processor is much faster than microcontrollers, and can triple the performance of touchscreen processing. The Do's

Dress appropriately. You do not need to wear a business suit every day; you just need to look respectable. All offices have a prescribed dress code regarding office attire, its okay to go slightly above or below the dress requirements, just do your best to dress like your co-workers.

Observe proper hygiene and personal cleanliness. No one wants to spend eight hours each day with someone who does not look and smell clean. So always make it a habit to at least take a shower and brush your teeth before reporting for work in the morning.

Avoid conflicts and arguments with your co-workers. Do your best to always have a decent working relationship with everyone in the office. You should avoid conflict in the workplace as much as you can, because if you make any enemies you'll have to deal with them every single day, that is, unless you are willing to quit your job.

Respect the office hierarchy.There is a chain of command in every office and whether you agree with where fit in that chain it's something you need to respect if you want your career to run smoothly. Sure, there may be times when you may need to ruffle some feathers but be sure to choose carefully when deciding whether or not to cross that line.

Don't make a habit of being late. You should avoid being tardy as much as possible. If possible try to get to work at least 15 minutes before the official work day starts. Go to bed early so you can rise early as well.

Don't pass the buck. Blaming others for your messes is a definite no-no in the workplace. You should always take responsibility for all of your actions and never point the blame on others. People will respect you more if you hold yourself accountable for everything you do.

Don't hover from desk to desk. Don't let the bosses catch you loitering around your co-worker's desks if you do not need anything important from them. Avoid shooting the breeze with your office mates during work hours, at least wait until your breaks or quitting time to chat.

Don't play loud music through your computer's speakers. Sure you may think Celine Dion's music is the greatest but don't subject your coworkers to that tortu.. I mean music. It is highly unlikely that other people share the same taste in music that you have, so if you need to play music use headphones and don't be obnoxious.

You should always display your best behavior while in the workplace. Not only will good manners garner you the respect of the other employees in the office, they will also get the attention of the bosses in a positive way.

In your adventures up and down the cosmetic aisle at your drugstore or favorite department store, you have no doubt seen the kits with a palette of three colors or four colors of eye shadow packed in one compact. The manufacturers do this for you to take the guess work out of finding three hues that work together in the same color family - light, medium and dark. You can certainly use one color for your entire eye area for a simple and clean look, but once you know how to apply all three colors you will be surprised at the gorgeous eyes you will see looking back at you!

Apply eye primer to clean eyelids; this will prevent your makeup from creasing throughout the day. Over the primer, apply a flesh tone eye shadow or concealer from lash line to brow bone. The concealer serves as a base that allows the colors you use to start with flawless skin, a sort of clean canvas, in the eye area.

Apply the medium color from lash line to crease. You may use the applicator that comes with the kit, or if you have brushes, use the eye brush with a larger flat head. Brushes will offer a better shape and more control, but this is an individual preference.

Take your crease eye shadow brush (or clean the end of applicator you just used) and press the darkest color onto the crease. Those who do not have an evident crease can stipple the color onto the outer corner of the eye in a V shape. The darkest color is generally used to contour the eye so that it appears to have more depth and dimension to your eye.

Swirl a larger eye shadow brush in the lightest color. Tap off excess and apply the product to your brow bone. If you like the doe-eyed look, apply the lightest color on the inner corners of your eyes by the bridge of the nose. If the color has a shimmer to it, and you want to give your eyes additional sparkle for a night out, pat some shadow on the center of your top eyelid. When the light catches the shimmer, your eyes will be the focus.

Clean off the same brush (or applicator) with a tissue, and use the brush to blend away any hard lines in your eye makeup so where one color ends and the next one begins is seamless. You may have heard this referred to as a line of demarcation, and you do not want to see this with any of your makeup!

So with a few easy steps and few extra minutes of your time, you have created an eye look that gorgeous and glamorous.

The Soho neighborhood is located in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. In the 1950's, the area was a desolate area that was often referred to as an "industrial wasteland." It was home to a number of factories and sweatshops that were thought to tarnish the reputation of the area. Of course, the image that it had during that period of time was still better than the image the area garnered previously. Prior to the mid 20th century, the area was a buzzing center for nightlife, and was home to the most condensed population of bars, taverns and brothels in the city.

The Soho district was the area that was most known for having artists move in to huge locations to work and live in for cheap. Many of these apartments were called lofts, and gave artists ample space to work on their projects. The neighborhood is called Soho, which stands for "South of Houston, " referring to the fact that it is south of Houston Street.

The area is still associated with the arts even today. Of course, the location has expanded to become known for their great shopping centers and artsy establishments around the area. The location has had a great deal of influence on the art world, and some of the most world renowned artists got their start in the Soho area.

At one point, the area was thought to be destined to be torn down to build a highway. Eventually, the city was not able to secure enough funding for the project, and the Soho neighborhood was spared. After the project fell through, there were still a huge number of historic buildings that were thought to scare away the potential manufacturing and commerce companies that the city wanted to populate the area. Although many of the lofts were not zoned or equipped for residential use, the fact that many artists were living in the area was largely ignored for a long period of time.

Soho is home to the vast majority of cast iron buildings that are located in New York City. The style was used to decorate the front of a preexisting building to make it look as though it had been renovated or rebuilt.

Until the early 1070's, the city continually made attempts to keep the Soho neighborhood as a strictly industrial area. However, amid public outcry, they abandoned these plans and decided that having the area known for the area was a smart move.

Even today, the area is a popular attraction for upcoming artists because they can lease large spaces for a fraction of the price that they would pay in other areas of the city. Soho is a cultural landmark that is often visited by sightseers, tourists and fans of the arts. Even today, the location is an important piece of the art community, and is often chosen to host showcasing's and events related to the art world.
